Is there anywhere I can take courses to learn Arabic

Posted in Kuwait forum

I have been here for a few months and would like to take courses in Arabic. I know of the Aware Center, but there schedule for introductory classes, conflict with my schedule. I live in the Jabryia area. Thanks

I could not agree with you more except for the fact that the filtration is not effective in hookahs and hence more dangerous. The one i smoked few years ago never gave feel of a cigarette. How does this one feel. Do u feel that high. I would have like to try it by myself. But I cant. I have quit smoking a long time ago.

Well from what I hear it's flavored tobacco and more harmful than cigarettes. I have never smoked in my life tried this thing and now I feel as if I am hooked. I don't do it at home at all, it's a social thing for me. I just smoke it when I go out with friends or by myself. Personally, I think it is harmful, I mean C'mon we are inhaling smoke, and flavored TOBACCO. Tobacco is tobacco is tobacco, right? I guess I can justify doing it while I am here in Kuwait only.

I googled it a few weeks ago and was able to get information on it, and the bloggers had a field day they all seem to think that smoking this thing is equivalent to smoking an entire pack of cigs. Wow!

It doesn't have tobacco or does it ? When i tried it back home it was only flavoured smoke. You can take it in as much as you like. Its called hookah there. shisha is a persian name i think. I have seen some arab woman do it with ease. Hence i thought it is no tobacco

Thanks, a lot. My first choice was the Aware Center, but as I stated it's just been a hastle with my schedule. I am learning a little here and there also, but I guess I would like to see more progress. I will check out your blog and AUK, thanks again.

8 years Wow! This really is your second home. I have been here for less than six months. You are right, I don't love it either, but then again I don't hate it either. It's ok. For the most part, i hang out with friends from the U.S. and that's really about it. I have not really been able to meet any friends from other countries. I think it has a lot to do with my work schedule. I spend most of my days at work.
I spend a lot of time at the mall. I shop sometimes but not all the time and enjoy going to the 360 mall for bowling, Avenues for shopping and Marina for shisha. There are times when I take a trip to Fahaheel for MORE Shisha and shopping. Funny how I came here and picked up this smoking shisha thing, I have never smoked a day in my life prior to coming to Kuwait. I must say though, this stuff is great! I do wish I could learn more about the culture from an Arab woman though, that would be nice, just a little difficult to get to know them. I think they have stereotypes about American women and well some of us may have our own notions about them, so it's been difficult to come together. My fingers are crossed though. :o)

You are welcome. I'm in kuwait for around 8 years. I don't love being here just like any other expat but I like it because I think this is my second country. People are good and you can have friends from different countries. I think as compared to other gulf countries, kuwait is a good place to live.
I don't get much time for other activities. I love to read and sometimes play chess online. Spend time with my family and friends.
    What about you?

    Ok.

    This is the website :

    http://www.highstudies.com/

You said you are new in Kuwait so I'll give you the directions to the institute.

On their site they have mentioned that it's in Salmiya and Kuwait City.

    For Samiya:
I hope you know Royal Hayat Hospital in Jabriya. Take 4th Ring road from that point and go towards Salmiya. There will be a fly over on that road. After crossing that Fly over, check on your left side and you will find Fatima Clinic before Gas station. You can take the Uturn and go to Fatima Clinic. They have mentioned that it is behind Fatima Clinic.

    For Kuwait City:
Take 5th Ring road to Jahra not to Salmiya. When you are in 5th ring road, take 50th ring road to Kuwait City.
There are two signals at the end of the road before bridge. After crossing the signals go straight on the road which is passing under the brigde. At the end of the bridge, go to the right side. (You can see Kuwait Tower on your left side) .
Go straight on that road and there will be another signal at the round about. Before that signal on your right side there is one white six story building. This is called Ghannam Buildinh. High studies is in that building from 1st floor to 4th floor. Administration is on the second floor. Go to second floor for inquiry.
For car parking, Before the round about signal, there is a small road on the right side. Enter in that road and you can find the parking on your left side.
I hope it is clear address. If you have any doubt don't hesitate to ask.

Hints : Mirqab, Kuwait Tower, KPTC Bus Stop, Post Office.

I am definately interested in checking out their schedule. Personally, I just want to take the classes for my own personal enrichment. If you could provide me with the ifo for the High Institute or any other private institute I would really appreciate it.
    thanks

You can enroll in Kuwait university for arabic classes. If you still have schedule problem then there are many private institutes. One of them I know is "High Studies Institute" in Kuwait city. If you are interested I'll provide you the address details. They are open from morning 8:00 to 8:00 pm I think. I hope you can find flexible timing there.
