It's called historical isoloation. China has been through this twice, once with the Ming Dynasty, in which they were an empire and then the Maoist regime.

Now, their shyness comes from lack of experience and exposure to other cultures. Plus, good role models to teach in their education how to be more outgoing.

Yes, in China it is worse for males in their teens and 20s. Then, as they become more confident, they are more outgoing. But their uptightness can come from their educational system, parents that are very shy or insecure and now that China is openning up most young Chinese are slowly realizing that they need to change to adapt to the rest of the world, if not: they will be extremely unsuccessful, unhappy and always tied to what their parents say.

Not only culture has made them this way, but their leaders by isolating them from others. You will see this when they date, how inadequate they feel and if you date a 24 year old young man, you will notice his behaviour like a 16 year old. Quite common! So, some young people are realizing that is time for a change...

    Take care,

    Sncerely,

    Daniel
