    I know, being welcome makes a HUGE difference! racism in Germany is very subliminal, it's not like ethnic minorities get beaten up by neo nazis everyday.

    but they can definitely feel they are not welcome there, it's quasi impossible to put the finger on why and how Germans somehow manage to make us feel unwelcome, but it's felt. they make sure you know you don't belong there.

    they might say foreigners are welcome, but it's hard to feel welcome if you know what I mean. "welcome" is not just a word or a process of inviting people, but something you feel.
